AbstractThe purpose of this study is to examine the existing relationship between the texture of LANDSAT images and topographic variation. This study was carried out on three test sites because they showed similar topography and ground cover. Topographic data were collected from LANDSAT images and topographic maps. A roughness index was used to represent image texture. This index is the tonal variation within a 0,5 x 0,5 cm grid. Declivity data were collected from topographic maps at different scales to correlate with the roughness index. The obtained results showed the possibility of characterizing topographic conditions by analyzing the texture of LANDSAT images.
